Spectre Screening

SPECTRE SCREENING -

I went to see the film along with several friends including a number of fellow media classmates and media students.

VENUE
We went to see the film at my local Odeon Cinema (Uxbridge), upon arrival it was evident that the night was to be a special occasion, it was coincidentally the Spectre Premiere. The theatre floor of the Chimes shopping centre was overflowing with customers they all seemed to be eagerly waiting for the 2015 James Bond film.

Spectre Marketing Campaign

Spectre - Marketing Campaign

Poster

The movie poster for Spectre is bold and clear. It features the two main characters that the movie is based around as they are placed towards the centre of the image. Bond (Daniel Craig) is dressed sharply as expected and is accompanied by a beautifully dressed bond girl (Lea Seydoux).
The imagery is shrouded in an occurring Bond colour scheme of dark greys, black and light blue.
The title is in gold which stands out against the black backdrop and gives an element of class and riches.

Trailers

Trailers are a great way to make the audience aware of a film even a short minute or so clip can be enough to draw in the lion's share of a productions customers. Trailers are featured between programmes and at ad breaks. Trailers have benefits which include the exposure to millions through a simple clip shown on tv yet they also can have drawbacks such as the extensive amount it costs to get your trailer on air, this is not such a big problem for blockbuster films because they tend to have a big budget and expect a huge return on their investment at the box office.
TV Spots

Daniel Craig was on the Graham Norton show promoting Spectre, this is a common advertising stratergy amongst blockbuster films, the main actors or members of the cast tend to be scheduled for tv spots with the top talk show hosts for example in the UK these tend to consist of Graham Norton, Alan Carr and Jonathan Ross. Spectre is to be his last film of the Bond franchise and also director Sam Mendes' last production.

Internet

The movie is rated rated 7.3 on IMDb which can either promote the movie well or not, it is a form of review. 7.3 is a decent rating but it probably won't get browsers jumping out their seats to see the movie.

Cast

The cast includes a wide array of well-established actors and actresses. The high-profile actors are important for the big hitters at the box office because they can draw in a huge amount of the audience as they already have a huge following and fan base, for example Daniel Craig has a big following including many Bond fans from his previous films.

One of the most interesting factors is the recent rise of Austrian actor Christoph Waltz, in t he last ten years he's one two oscars in the supporting role and he was one of the main reasons why i wanted to see Spectre, after seeing him star in Green Hornet, Big Eyes, Inglorious Basterds and Django Unchained.

Review

As of yet the movie has a 63% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, 7.3 on IMDb, 5/5 by the Guardian.

Personal Thoughts

Suffragette Marketing

SUFFRAGETTE - Marketing Campaign

Cast

Immediately what comes to mind when talking of marketing of this movie is the stellar cast. The cast is pivotal in exposure for the film as it is a British independent and this means that minimal money is to go on advertising therefore a huge percentage of interest from customers will come from the fans of the stars in the movie.

The cast includes Meryl Streep who has been nominated for 19 academy awards. Although she only has a small part in the actual film, her presence i the film raises a huge influx of interest, especially from those who are aware of her work.

Notably as part of the marketing campaign for the 2015 drama, cast members including Carey Mulligan, Meryl Streep and Romola Garai were involved in a photo shoot promoting controversial t-shirts, sporting the words 'id rather be a rebel than a slave.'

Suffragette Screening 5th November

Suffragette Update - Movie Thoughts

On the 5th of November i went to see the movie in Regent Street with the rest of my class. It was a great experience to be able to go to a cinema that holds so much history in addition it was good experience to go somewhere other than the mainstream theater such as an Odeon or Vue.

Initially me and my group that i traveled with towards Regent street got slightly
lost upon finding the cinema but after a
couple phone calls we had soon found it and were able to meet with the rest of the class.

Upon entry we were presented with film handouts displaying the headliners of the cast and quotes from acclaimed movie reviews.

The audience were closely monitored by a woman from 'Into Film' accompanied by a small camera crew who briefly filmed the audience before and after the movie.

Review
Personally i enjoyed the film, the cast managed to portray complex and believable characters from a historic era where the Suffragette movement took hold. In particular the sensational Carey Mulligan managed carry the film as the main actress exceptionally, fully immersing me in the film, especially during the emotional scene with her child. I  always prefer not to know about movies before i watch them so i have more in store to be surprised by however the setting is difficult to avoid, 'Suffragette' but this didn't take away from the quality of the movie.

Q and A
Thanks to 'Into Film' we were treated with the opportunity of a Q and A session with the screenwriter, Abi Morgan and Suffragette actress Romola Garai.
During the Q and A questions were posed to both the screenwriter and Romola, who were extremely open and did their utmost to answer each question effectively, which was achieved.
